Abstract

This poster is inspired by a quote attributed to George Orwell which reads “All art is propaganda; on the other hand, not all propaganda is art.”. The art style of this piece is inspired by posters from the Bolshevik, and ‘The New Economic Party’ periods of Russian history, aping the distinctive style of stark outlines and limited use of colour for highlights and legends.

The poster's legend text and the slogans for the crowd's banner and sandwich board have been rendered in a stencil style font called 'Stop', and heavily altered using Illustrator's extensive text manipulation tools.

The companion piece for this image can be found here.

A crowd gathers around an orator, as he addresses them through a megaphone, his voice full of indignation and fire; too long have they been ignored and pushed around, too long have they been abused, they're mad as hell and their not going to take it anymore. 'Doog Sgel Ruof, Dab Sgel Owt' the banner reads.
''All art is propaganda; on the other hand, not all propaganda is art.'' George Orwell
